The HypeCity Show: Jo Rivers, Tony Bruce, Bangout (B.O.R.N.)

Dariel "Nastyfig" Figueroa (@dariel_figueroa), Eli Seeney (@eliseeney), and Pharron "Gliss" Fields (@gerzygliss) hosted another special HypeCity show with some very special guests and dope news topics. As always it all went down at UTM Radio (@utmradio) in Philadelphia, PA.
First, in the news we talked about the top moments during the most recent SXSW festival, including the MTV Woodies which featured a powerhouse lineup including names like Young M.A. and more, plus a special performance by Lil Yachty and D.R.A.M. Then we got to our in-studio guests: Camden singer/songwriter Jo Rivers (@joriversmusic), Philly producer/emcee Tony Bruce (@tonybrucebmg), and Trenton emcee B.O.R.N. aka Bangout.
First in the chair was singer/songwriter and occasional emcee Jo Rivers, who is fresh off her new release, a 6-track EP named ‘I Don’t Even Know Yet.’ Jo discussed her motivations behind some of the records, and the process of creating the album which was exclusively produced by Famey Miscellany (@iamfamey). She spoke about some personal experiences that fueled the lyrics, and her upcoming shows where she will be performing the album's material live. Then the sultry songstress surprised everyone and displayed her hip hop roots by dropping some fire bars on the spot. Be sure to check out Jo Rivers’ latest release ‘I Don’t Even Know Yet’ on iTunes, Amazon, and Spotify.
Next up we spoke with Tony Bruce, 19 year old phenom producer and emcee out of Philadelphia. He talked about the current projects he has in the works, including work with Philly’s own Ar-Ab (@ar_ab_32), for whom Tony produced three records on his newest mixtape, Protocol Volume 1. Tony spoke about being young and relatively new to the game, yet having already accomplished so much in such a short amount of time. He’s been grinding since he was 15 years old, allying himself with his partner Puma Vasquez (@puma_east) from Camden, NJ. Together they have many different things coming down the pipeline, in music and beyond. Be sure to grab Ar-ab's new project featuring Tony Bruce's production, and also look for this rising hip hop star's own project, titled Trap Season, coming soon.
Last and far from least, we spoke to the winner of Kilogram (@kilogram3) and Chain of Command Entertainment’s #BreakfastwithBarz showcase, the emcee known as B.O.R.N. (Bang Out Real Nigga) aka Bangout for short. Joining him on the show was his producer and partner Cobra Clutch (@the1andonlycobraclutchbeatz), who will exclusively provide the music for Bangout's upcoming self-titled project B.O.R.N. Bangout told us about his upbringing, being born in Baltimore and raised in Trenton, NJ. Bangout’s style is self-described as Reality Rap, as he uses his music to document the things he encounters on a daily basis in the streets of Trenton. He told us that he speaks to the real life people, going through the everyday struggle, and that his message to them is to truly live without being completely bound by the life of keeping up with bills and just getting by, because one day you will be gone. Bangout will be releasing a self-titled album B.O.R.N. this summer. Right now go check Code of the Streets on YouTube.
Bangout closed the show by setting the entire booth ablaze, freestyling over any and every beat Gunner G’s fed to him. It was one of the standout performances we've had in the booth so far.
It was another dope night for Hip-Hop. Catch us next week.
