Lil Wayne’s Son Dwayne Carter III Is Making His Own Name on the Football Field

Lil Wayne has spent decades building one of hip-hop’s most recognizable legacies. Now, his son Dwayne Carter III is beginning to make a name for himself in a completely different arena.

Carter is a senior placekicker for Gainesville High School in Georgia, and he opened the 2026 season by showing exactly why college programs are beginning to pay attention.

Facing Buford in Gainesville’s season opener on Aug. 22, Carter connected on two field goals during the first half, including a 35-yarder in the opening quarter. Gainesville ultimately fell 39-19, but Carter’s performance became one of the notable storylines coming out of the matchup.

College Football Could Be Next

Carter isn’t simply playing high school football with a famous last name attached to him.

The young kicker has already received a Division I scholarship offer from Colorado, where head coach Deion Sanders has turned the Buffaloes into one of college football’s most talked-about programs.

Carter transferred to Gainesville after previously attending North Atlanta and also has experience playing soccer, a background that isn’t uncommon among kickers developing their leg strength and accuracy.

With his senior season underway, every opportunity could become another audition for college programs looking for special-teams talent.

A Different Carter Legacy

There will naturally be attention surrounding Carter because of who his father is.

Lil Wayne, born Dwayne Michael Carter Jr., became one of the defining rappers of his generation through a career filled with hit records, mixtapes and cultural influence.

His son, however, appears to be building his own story.

Instead of recording booths and concert stages, Carter’s biggest moments right now are coming under the Friday-night lights.

And with a Division I offer already on the table, the possibility of seeing a Carter playing college football next season is becoming very real.

Different field. Different talent. Same family making noise.
