NO I.D. sells his Entire Catalog
Hipgnosis Songs has acquired the entire music royalty catalog of frequent Kanye West and Jay-Z collaborator Ernest "Dion" Wilson, better known as No I.D. Considered the "Godfather of Chicago Hip-Hop," No I.D.’s songs and productions over the years have been streamed more than 7 billion times and include such hits as "Run This Town" by Jay-Z featuring West and Rihanna; "Holy Grail" by Jay-Z featuring Justin Timberlake; West’s "Black Skinhead"; and "Kiss Me" by Ed Sheeran, among many others.
Technically, Hipgnosis has acquired 100% of No I.D.’s worldwide copyrights and publishing royalties — including writer’s share of income — in the 273-song catalog. No I.D. rose to fame in 1994 with his production work on Common’s critically acclaimed sophomore album Resurrection. He began his partnership with Jay-Z with 2007’s American Gangster album and subsequently worked on major releases like The Blueprint 3, Magna Carta Holy Grail and 4:44. He started working with West in 2008 on the seminal 808s & Heartbreak, and the collaboration continued with My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy and Yeezus. He has also worked with Drake, Big Sean and Nas.
"The words NO I.D. are a stamp of excellence on any album," said Merck Mercuriadis, founder of Hipgnosis Songs. "From Kanye West’s '808s & Heartbreak’, 'My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy’ and 'Yeezus’ to Jay-Z’s astonishing run from 'American Gangster’ through 'The Blueprint 3’, 'Magna Carta Holy Grail’ and '4:44’, Dion has been in the middle of everything that is great about Hip Hop for more than two decades. He is a special creator and everyone in the Hipgnosis Family is proud to have him standing next to us."
No I.D. added, "Not many have the best intentions for the artist and the creators. Merck and the Hipgnosis team have shown that they are a safe home for the songs that score our lives."
