Following a string of grave accusations, ESPN sources are stating that Shannon Sharpe may never return to the network and may already be blacklisted. This is a startling development.
At least three women have accused Sharpe of sexual assault since 2010. One of these cases garnered media attention when it seemed that the former NFL player was threatening a 19-year-old OnlyFans model on leaked recordings. Not in the way his fans are accustomed to, the unsettling tape, in which a voice thought to be Sharpe's declares that he will "choke the life out of her," has gone viral.
In his 50s, Sharpe has established a second career as a media personality with well-known websites like Undisputed and his well-liked podcast, Club Shay Shay. However, given how quickly networks respond to allegations of wrongdoing in the post-MeToo environment, this incident may spell the end of his TV career.
Diverse responses have exploded on social media. While some fans are stunned and in amazement, others say it’s been a long time coming, recalling earlier comments and behaviors that passed under the radar for years.
Although ESPN has not yet released an official statement, executives are reportedly already separating the company from Sharpe's reputation.
