Alfredo 2: Freddie Gibbs and The Alchemist’s Bold Sequel, Explained

Alfredo 2, which is sharper, darker, and more dramatic, is the return of Freddie Gibbs and The Alchemist five years after the Grammy-nominated Alfredo. A change in theme is indicated by the Tokyo-inspired sequel's cover, which features yaka mein instead of pasta. The music of Alfredo: The Movie, a short film, has a noir undertone.

Gibbs sounds just as rough but more polished. •

"1995" opens with a warning to imitators and a frigid sample flip.

• "Mar-A-Lago" captures tension and paranoia by sampling Baby Boy.

· “Ensalada” with Anderson . Paak uses food as a threat and a metaphor. Benny the Butcher is the target of poetic jabs in "Empanadas."

J.I.D. almost steals the song "Gold Feet" with a ravenous verse.

Split into three acts, Alfredo 2 moves from braggadocio to contemplation. Gibbs uses some of Alchemist's most opulent beats to explore themes of crime, grief, power, and legacy. This is layered, in contrast to Alfredo's simple style. Flash without a shine. Rap crime that has a cinematic quality.
